Meet Sonder Architects

Claire Reece

Claire Reece

BA Architecture 2007 (First Class Honors)
Architect and Principal

Claire graduated from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) where she achieved first-class honors. Since graduating Claire has enjoyed a diverse career. She worked in Berlin on the ADAC office tower, in Copenhagen on façade studies for Malmo Live, as well as high-end residential projects in Sydney and Melbourne. Claire now practises in Canberra, co-founding Sonder Architects. She enjoys connecting with clients and creatively problem-solving to deliver joyful spaces.

Professionally Claire exercises aesthetic judgement against practical concerns, but occasionally abandons this maxim outside of architecture where she makes time to paint. Claire enjoys to quietly labour over a canvas (typically landscapes from various outdoor adventures), an interest furthered from being awarded a scholarship to study at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Wendy Christie

BA Architecture, 2002 (Honors). BA Design Studies, 1999
Architect and Principal

Since graduating from the University of Queensland, Wendy has practised architecture in Australia, Austria, Canada, and Vanuatu, focusing on residential and community projects. These international experiences have been formative, immersing her within a philosophy of regionally, climatically, and culturally specific architecture. She applies her passion for climate and cultural understanding to ensure that each project is unique and context specific.

Wendy co-founded Sonder Architects to marry her research interests with creating buildings that positively impact people’s lives. She is detail oriented and skilled in managing complex projects and project teams. Outside of architecture you can find her exploring the region’s bushland and coastlines.

Work with us

We have big picture ideas, creative spatial problem-solving skills, aesthetic discernment, diverse technical knowledge and the people skills to deliver crafted and delightful work.

As architects, we are registered professionals. This means we have the required university qualifications, many years of practical experience and we have passed rigorous professional examinations. We are also required to uphold codes of moral and ethical conduct.

Construction can be stressful, costly and disruptive. Our ability to take a project from conception to completion is unique and mitigates potential adversities and stress for our clients. Our involvement throughout the process makes for a smooth, well planned build that results in a building customised to your needs.

Sonder is a purposely small practice. Our clients work directly with us and gain from our years of experience to achieve the best spatial outcomes.
